Safety first. Electrical work in Canada is regulated. Some provinces require permits for fixture changes; many do not for like-for-like swaps. Check your local Electrical Safety Authority. When in doubt, hire a licensed electrician.
Before you start
- Turn off power at the breaker.
- Use a non-contact voltage tester at the fixture to confirm it's dead.
Steps
- Remove the old fixture and disconnect the wires.
- Note the colours: black (hot), white (neutral), bare/green (ground).
- Connect the new fixture matching colour-to-colour with marrettes.
- Tuck wires into the box, secure the fixture, install the bulb.
- Restore power and test.
