Weatherstrip an exterior door
20–40 min $15–$35 CAD pricing

Find the leaks

On a windy day, run a lit incense stick around the door frame. Where the smoke wavers, air is leaking.

Materials

  • V-strip or compression foam weatherstripping for the jamb
  • Door sweep for the bottom
  • Utility knife, screwdriver

Steps

  1. Clean the jamb so the adhesive sticks.
  2. Measure each side, cut the weatherstripping, peel and press into place.
  3. Screw the door sweep to the bottom of the door so it just kisses the threshold.
  4. Close the door and check for an even seal all around.
